Anita,

How cool to hear from you and all about your Morgans.  I ride a Tennuvian and my husband rides a Paso Fino.  It's funny that you know the folks so well at Bar 50.  We've not been there yet but Julian bought my 4 yr old Paso Fino gelding earlier this year.  We ride at Lonesome D Horse Camp at New Blaine alot.  We like it because we can take out dogs with us.  I guess that is the main reason we haven't been to Bar 50 yet; we are so used to having the dogs with us.  I didn't know that Bar 50 has a weekly ride, when is that?  I guess I need to go check out their website again and see what's happening.  I also didn't know about Hoof Fest being moved to Benton.  When is that going to happen?  We usually go and a couple of years ago we had out Paso Finos up there with a few other people who raise them for an exhibit.  We had a great time.

Take Care we are getting ready to go back to LDHC this weekend so got lots to do.

Kathie

Hey! People on here from Arkansas - I'm so glad to have found you! Our family lives at Bismarck, just south of Hot Springs, and close to Lake Degray and Arkadelphia. Malvern is our county seat. :) I just found this message board yesterday. We are breeding gaited Morabs - we have a strongly gaited Morgan stallion that we are using for that. We have a few Morgans, too, but mostly Morabs - over 30 head right now. We are the first and only ones breeding for the gaited Morabs. Our oldest foals are just turing four this year.

It's funny that you guys brought up the Bar 50 Ranch - we live real close to them. In fact, we are friends of the owners and we have known them since they bought that place. Long before they ever started the Bed and Breakfast and riding thing. Up until here recently they had a Great Pryenees dog - he was one of our puppies. If you go to the Bar 50 and use some of their shavings for bedding, my husband was probably the one who hauled the shavings in there. He does that a lot for them. They have really developed that place into a great trail riding camp. Julian is doing new things all the time. He used to own the cedar plant in Hot Springs so all of his buildings/corrals/etc. are made with cedar. I love cedar so I find it all very attractive. :D Their week long ride is coming up here pretty soon. Even though we live so close, we've never gone on one of their organized rides, yet. We go over there to eat the bar-b-q when they have the contests at the fall ride. :) There are 20,000 acres on the mountains behind the Bar 50 with marked trails. We ride in there, we just don't go through Julian's. People with mountain bikes use those trails, too. On the fall ride which is a charity weekend ride for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, there are a lot of gaited horse riders that show up for that one. They don't allow stallions so we don't take Mystery. I sure would like to, though, so people could see him. My husband rode him last summer up there in the mountains behind the ranch with a group of ladies on their mares (people we know). Mystery was the perfect gentleman.

We are planning to be at the Hooffest next month in Benton. We want to bring Mystery and some of our Morab mares and foals. We'll see what happens. It was at Searcy last year - at least it's a lot closer to us this time! Especially since the gas has gotten so high. We have a palomino Morab mare bred to Mystery who is due to foal April 24th. Her Arab dam had two Arab stallions behind her who were five gaited. We are hoping for a gaited palomino Morab filly with this breeding. We've bred them once before, and we got a chocolate chestnut with extremely flaxen mane and tail and sabino white markings. That filly is three this year, and maturing out really gorgeous. She *is* gaited, too. I would love to bring a palomino gaited baby to Hooffest to show people. It would be the very first one in the registry who is gaited *and* palomino.

We've got another Morab mare who has already foaled, and she had a bay colt by Mystery. She's an exceptionally nice mare, and crosses exceptionally well with Mystery. This is her third foal by him, and he's gaiting. We would like to bring this pair to Hooffest, too. Maybe we will get to meet some of you there, huh? w2

cclarsencc,

We haven't been to Bar 50 yet but have been talking about going.  We haven't been there yet because they don't want you bringing your dogs on the trails.  But...you never know.  We normally go to Lonesome D Horse Camp it is close to Russellville, Dardenelle and Clarksville in northwest Arkansas.  That might be a long drive for you guys, but what do you think??  Are you planning on going to Bar 50 soon?  I just sold my 4 yr old paso fino to the owners of Bar 50 so I wouldn't mind going and riding and visiting him.

John and I are going to be at Lonesome D March 11-20 and I believe kuztwo from Oklahoma is going to be there from the 19th to the 26 or 27th so we are hoping to get together and ride.

Kathie

sounds like alot of fun.  If you decide to go to Lonesome D sometimes let us know and who knows maybe we'll be there.

glad your mare is getting better, that's always a good sign that you are doing something right.

It is very quite, its just a spot in the road really,  one gas station, mayors office, we stay at the trial bosses place, we go about 20 to 27 miles a day. We go different directions each day.  We go down gravel roads mainly but we do get off in the woods when its not wet.  My parents, daughter and I go twice a year, fall and spring its a 5 day trail ride, wish it was longer. My parents has a covered wagon they ride in. I used to ride my dads mule, the person we bought him from said that he was gaited, the only gait we found was walk, (his fav), trot, and canter. I wanted something smoother to ride, so I bought a foxtrotter.  We went Ava, Mo, to find one but they were out of my price range. Ava has a big show every year.  A guy thats goes to the same trail ride, had one so i bought is spoiled horse, but she is getting out of her bad habits, well at least most of them.

happy trails

So glad to know that there is another Arkansasan on the board, Missygirl.  I've never heard of oakalona, what is the riding like there?

Yes, Lonesome D is really nice.  we love it so much that we took all 3 of our vacations there last year and we keep our camper up there and just pay storage on it when we aren't using it.  We also have adopted a portion of the trail there to maintain on the state park side.

My husband has a paso fino and I have a paso fino which I have for sale and a tennuvian. I'm finding out that it is easier for me ride 1 horse than 2 :D  I did have 3 horses :P  so I'm trying to thin down the herd.

Well so far it seems that I'm the only one on the message board from Arkansas,  Surely there is someone out there from Arkansas. s4 We ride mainly at Lonesome D Horse Camp in New Blaine and on Crowley's Ridge at the Village Creek State Park.  We are going to Panther Creek in Missouri in June meeting a new riding friend from Kansas that just bought one of our paso finos and looking forward to that ride.  We've ridden at a couple of places in Tennessee as well as Golden Hills in southern Missouri.  Looking forward to meeting new trail riding friends on the message board.  Brenda, Thanks so much for providing us a place to meet.tu1
