MSjan,

I haven't been on the message board alot lately and just now saw your post.  I live in Arkansas northeast of Little Rock.  My husband and I ride alot at Lonesome D in New Blaine and just love it.  We usually vacation a couple of times a year there and try to go at least once a month for the weekend, although we haven't been up since New Year's weekend.  I ride a Tennuvian and John rides a paso fino. The horse camp is just wonderful and the Hamilton's have been making great improvements each year.  I love the trails, they are in the National Forest and you can ride all kinds of hills, mountains, flatland and water.  Pretty much whatever you want.  They have 2 cabins, camping spots with water and electricity and have just opened their general store.

We also wants to go to Natchez Trace maybe in March???  and someday hope to go to Shawnee.

There is going to be a Horse Fest May 13-14 in Little Rock, you can check out the information on it at http://www.arkansashorsefest.com .  It's not the Hoof Fest but the Horse Fest that has been held around the Fayetteville area in the last few years.

I hope you find someone close to you to ride with but if you come this way let me know and maybe we can meet you and ride together

Hi, I just joined the messageboard.  I am from Southaven, MS which is on the MS/TN state line.  I always loved horses (live, breath, eat for horses) and never had one until I got married which were always quarter type but have come to want just gaited.  I am interested in the gaited Morabs as I have what I think is a gaited Morgan.  It said on the Coggins papers Quarter type but I have studied and studied pictures of Morgan's on the computer and she is built just like them and she has some kind of gait.  She had a colt from a saddle horse/Arabian and he had a gait  from the time he dropped on the ground.  I have only ground worked with him and am anxious to get in the saddle but don't want to do it too fast and spoil him.

I know where some of the places are as I lived for a couple of months in London, Ar which is near Russellville, AR and have been through New Blaine and wondered about that horse camp.  If you get the magazine Trailrider or Trail Blazer I is all about the different places in different states to trail ride.

I never heard of the Hooffest, what is it and where is it.  Would probably attend if I know something about it.  always interested in something to do with horses.

I am in the same boat that I have no horse trailer but would like to hook up with someone near here to go trailriding with and would provide gas money, etc.  I was renting from this lady and she had the rig and everything and I went with her a couple of times with her horses to Natches State Park about halfway between Memphis and Nashville and also to Shawnee National Forest which is on the south border of Illinois and it will just take your breath away it is so beautiful.  Wonderful riding.  If anyone is out there, just email back.

HI, I am from southern Missouri, not to far from Arkansas. Have you ridden at Big Creek at Summersville Missouri?  They have very nice stalls, camping with electric and water at each site.  We have never been to Lonesome D.:(  How are the trails and camping sites??

My TW is to high sprited for a kid, I would feel more comfortable with an more experienced rider on him! having to hold him back, some days he'll walk slooow and there are days it seems like a race! The only bad habit he has is if he ain't first he'll turn around and just stand there. Have no idea why.

Anita,

Wish we were going to Hoof Fest but as I said we're probably going to still be at Lonesome D vacationing.  I'd love to see you again, I think you and your family are pretty cool.  It's hard to believe that the kids are all grown and have children of their own.  Time does fly doesn't it.  I sold my herd back in 1990 when John and I got married and moved to town.  Of course we only lived in town for 4 years and then we moved back to the country.  I did have angora goats for about 3 years; I sheared them, spun the wool and did some weaving, but my eyes aren't doing so well so I had to stop weaving and sold the angoras.  Then I had some mixed breed goats for a little bit and when we got into camping with the horses we sold them also.  We are trying to get down to just the dogs that go with us.  I still have 1 Borzoi and 1 wire-coated Ibizan Hound in addition to the Dutch Shepherd and German Shepherd that trail ride with us.  I'll check out the other website and let you know when I do.  It's really neat running into someone from my past here on the GOG message board.  Take care and hopefully someday we can run into each other again.

WOW, your website is wonderful.  Just got through browsing through it.  I remember your first horses and you guys have certainly gone great guns since the start.  What beautiful horses.

Kathie>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thanks, Kathie - we have been very blessed. :)  I'm glad you enjoyed the website. How about a new one I've been working on - http://endurancemorab.8k.com  Check that one out and see how you like it. I hope to be adding some gaited Morabs to that site one of these days soon. Both of these websites are updated on a regular basis so keep checking them out. In fact the endurance website is still technically under construction even though I've already got a lot up on it. I'm still finding new horses (found one just today!) to add, and waiting on more pictures to come, and updates on rides are constant.

I just figured out who you are.  We met showing goats at the state fair and I bought a little alpine goat from you for a companion to one of my nubian babies back in the 80's.  You also showed Great Pyrenese dogs at that time.  I lived at Scott then and showed nubians.  I had Testimonial Farms at that time, do you remember me now?

Kathie aka pasofinogirl>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I wish I did, Kathie, but I sure don't  t2...too many goat and horse people under the bridge since the 80's. We haven't shown at the State Fair in a long time now - not since the kids grew up and left home, and our oldest son will be 31 this summer (Yikes, how did that happen!?). We have three grandchildren now. The oldest, a granddaughter, as been riding since she was four years old. Our daughter-in-law and her mom have horses, too. In fact, the mother has a Morab son of our gaited Morgan, Mystery. He is four this year so they are looking forward to getting him under saddle now, and seeing what he's like.

Yes, we had the Pyrs for a long time, too. Some of our's did pretty good. One ended up in the Hall of Fame for her champion offspring. But we haven't had any registered pups in about 10 years now. We do have some dogs - one purebred girl who is getting up in years, two males that are half Pyr and half Aussie (they look like Pyrs); and two young girls who are 3/4 Pyr and 1/4 Aussie - those two are really good workers, and the youngest one has blue eyes. The older reg. girl is going to have pups in June sired by one of the 50/50 males. So if anyone is interested in buying a pup, let me know. :D The male is out of one of our old reg. females who was out of our old bloodlines, but she's gone now.

We still have a few Alpines - down to just a handful for house milk. Although we have about 10 kids out there right now since the does kidded all with twins. They are all purebreds, but we stopped registering the goats, too, about five years ago so the younger ones don't have papers. We exported all of our kid crops the last five years when we had more goats so we were eventually left with just five older does, and that was it.

Yeah, we got more involved with the Morabs than we ever dreamed we would. We ended up being the largest breeder of reg. Morabs in the world - still are as far as I know. We have about 30 head right now. We have cut way back on our breeding the last three springs - we were up to close to 60 horses at one point. Last year we didn't have a single foal, and this year we are having four (one of which is already sold to Kansas). Two have been born already, and two are still to come (one is due this week). We are breeding two or three again this year, but that's still way down from our foal crops of almost 20 per year that we *were* having. l1

Have you seen the book on gaited horses called, "Fabulous Floating Horses" by Barbara Weatherwax? We are in that book - Mystery and his offspring are in the gaited Morgan and gaited Morab chapters. We *are* the gaited Morab chapter. LOL! That's a good book - 1600 pictures and pretty thick. I'll probably bring it with me to Hooffest. I did last year.

I hope to see you *again* at Hooffest - maybe I'll recognize you when I see you!

Hi All, I have a TW and 3 quarter horses, but I'm tring to sell them, >>>>>>>>

Are you selling your TW? My sister in Oklahoma is looking for one that is kid safe for her husband to replace his old TW mare they lost last year.

Lately we've been riding at Jack Mtn, it's so beautiful and so many trails!! a couple of weekends ago we were riding there and went by Bar Fifty and got a drink. Has anyone else rode at Jack Mtn?

Talk to ya Later, Cpierce>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yes, we've ridden on Jack Mtn. behind the Bar 50 - yes, it sure *is* beautiful! Lots of places like that in Arkansas. :D  Malvern is our county seat - our family was the first to start showing dairy goats at the Malvern county fair back in the early 80's. Lots of fond memories of that fair grounds. :)  Our kids were in 4-H until they were too old to do it anymore.

Anita,

you are going to Lonesome D the week of Hoof Fest??  We are going to be there May 13th to the 22nd.  So what dates are you going to be there?  If we are there on the same dates maybe we can ride together some???

Kathie aka pasofinogirl>>>>>>>>>>

Hi, Kathie - no, I was just replying to you where you had said you were going to LD. :D We will be at Hooffest, though. Lord willing. :D Some day we would like to go up to the LD, though. We've got to get some more horses broke to ride - all the ones we had have sold except for a couple of older mares. Both of those are broke to harness, too. We need to get some more of these younger ones broke to harness. I'm wondering if these gaited Morabs would be good harness horses as well as saddle horses. I guess we'll find out, huh? l1  Be sure to look us up at Hooffest!

crpierce01,

Hey, I haven't heard of Jack Mountain, where is it?  I assume it's close to Bar50???  :D.  I was raised of quarter horses but since I've ridden gaited I'll never go back, it's alot easier on these old bones to ride gaited.  I just love riding my tennuvian, his gait is so easy and it's fun training a horse again.  I just love his mind, he's eager to learn new things and he's getting better about being ridden by himself.  He's really herd bound but it's something we've been working on.

Happy Trails,

Kathie aka Pasofinogirl

Hi All, I have a TW and 3 quarter horses, but I'm tring to sell them, Because I wanted one gaited and one guarter horse,
I've had my TW for almost a year this summer, and he's a lead horse, and recently I entered into a riding club and they have is quarter horses mostly, and it's not that fun any more, always being first, but I thought about keeping him cause he's excellent when we're by ourself! I can do anyhing with him.
Lately we've been riding at Jack Mtn, it's so beautiful and so many trails!! a couple of weekends ago we were riding there and went by Bar Fifty and go a drink. Has anyone else rode at Jack Mtn?

Thanks for the dates on Hoof Fest I'm not sure if we are going to make it or not but we are going to try, we are going to be on vacation that week and are planning on going to Lonesome D for the week. >>>>>>>>>>>>>

The dates for the next week long trail ride at the Bar 50 Ranch are May 29th thru June 4th. It costs $185 per person for the week and includes camp site, 3 meals a day, etc.

Missy,

We just got back today from a weekend of riding at Lonesome D Hose Camp in New Blaine, Ar.  Had a blast, they weather was perfect.  Our horses are doing very well.  My 3 yr old Tenneuvian Pepe Joe is gaiting very nicely and gaining strength each ride.  You can actually see muscles developing on him now :D

I'm so glad that your horse is doing better about being barn sour.  I'm working on Pepe Joe to not be so herd sour.  It is a chore to work on those things but doesn't it make you feel so good when the horses finally get it?;)

Thanks for the dates on Hoof Fest I'm not sure if we are going to make it or not but we are going to try, we are going to be on vacation that week and are planning on going to Lonesome D for the week.  But we'll see what happens.

That Okalona ride sounds like a lot of fun.  Hope you enjoy it.

Have Fun riding and be safe wv
