What do you use to clean your bits off after alot of use or after they've been in the tack room a while. I'm curious to see what products people like and or what home remedies people here use.

I rinse my Imus bit off after every ride with water & my fingers. If some grass has gotten a little crusty, well then I employ fingernails. That's all it takes. Less than two minutes.

yea. Ditto- rinse off after every ride. Gross. I wouldn't want to put some crusty bit in my mouth, I figure the horse wouldn't either.

l1 Nor would I eat horse poop, dirt, or even grass but some horses don't really mind at all. w2

Taylor does not seem to appreciate a freshly 'cleaned' bit. However, I do get the crusty stuff off if its there.

I've had two horses who fussed with the bit if wasn't clean... I think they notice, but whether or not they mind is individual..

I just dip mine in the automatic waterer to rinse.  The one time I actually cleaned it, Shadow just worked it and worked it until she got whatever flavor she thought was on it off.  Now, she just takes it in and begins sucking on it.  Magic hasn't been bitted long enough or often enough (or by me) to even noticed what he does yet.

For me, it is not the filter or the water that you have used in cleaning. But the way you clean. And if you clean it well, right?

I soak mine in water then take a toothbrush & mint flavored toothpaste and scrub it clean, and sometimes I leave a little mint toothpaste haze on the mouthpiece.
