I have created a yahoo list and am researching gaited Arabians.  My stallion gaits in the pasture and I have owned a 5 gaited Arabian before.  It is my goal to breed and train gaited Arabians.  Any one have info about gaited Arabian bloodlines they would like to share?  My stallion is Habib Rafiq, SE/AK liver chestnut.

Bloodlines I'm aware of include: Raseyn, Rabiyas, Bazelyd, Gulastra.

The list is Gaited_Arabians@yahoogroups.com

Sincerely,

Karen Page

They had a special on TV Saturday night about Arabian horses. I did not get to see it as I had company. My non-horsey brother who loves to watch movies or documentaries about horses called and told me. He watched it and said it made him want one. This is the brother that says if we had to go back to riding horses he would rather walk as everytime in his youth he went to a riding stable he always ended up hanging in a tree. LOL

This is all news to me! I've never come across a full blooded, gaited Arabian. One local gal has an ArabXTWH mare - black - that is a total knockout. I'd love to see some video clips of these horses in gait.

I wish I had videos of the gaited Arab I owned, he was an INCREDIBLE horse.....my brother has some on his old projector style movies. :(

Here is a pic of him.......not very good, but I plan on photoshopping....the picture was taken in 1985! He was the sweetest, smoothest horse I have ever ridden! He gaited even when he was loose in the pasture!  He was a reg. 16hd Arab gelding..."Big Red" I was sooo proud of him!:)

Do you have any idea what his registered name was?  Or maybe the owner of record?  I'm trying to trace bloodlines.

Thanks!

Karen

His sire was Tisaan's Sugar....Big Red was born in 1970, in Moorhead , MN if that helps. Just so u kjnow, he wasn't born gaiting, he was trained. But his trainer said it came extremely natural for him. I would love to find out more about him. I think his dam's name was Triangle Blondie? I was told he was bred very well....and it obviosuly shows, but I'm not familiar with any of his rellies?!

Thanks for the information!  I'll add him to my growing list of gaited Arabians.

He appears to have been registered as FOX-FIRE MORZAM (13/16 Arabian).  Big Red was probably his barn name.  So not purebred, but close enough that the gaiting ability probably did come from the Arab side.

Fox-Fire Morzam is by Morzam (purebred) and out of a 7/8 Arabian mare named Tisaans Sugar who is out of the 3/4 Arabian mare Blondel, who is in turn out of Triangle Blonie, whose dam is listed as named "Lady" and was a grade horse.

He has Rabiyas (mulitple lines) on both sides of his pedigree, as well as Gulastra through another source.  He also has multiple lines to Raseyn.  I would definitely consider him a well bred horse.

I'm not too worried about the fact that he was taught to gait.  From my time with Saddlebreds I know that they have to have the ability in order to be gaited.  It's not something that all horses can be taught to do.

Yes...now I remember a  "Morzam?" being named on his pedigree.  On the papers I have his reg. name was "Royal Charge"  Yep..."Big Red" was his nickname. 15/16 Arabian.......does that mean he is "almost" purebred? What other breeds were in him? His papers are at my parents house in ND...I will search for them next time I am there to give u more info. Thank u so much for informing me of his bloodlines. He was truly the BEST horse I ever had, I can still cry when I think of the day he died. He was the gentlest creature one would ever meet....but so bold and proud under saddle! Where do u find your info? I would like to do some research myself. U own gaited Arabs?

Also.....do u have any pix of Tisaan's Sugar, Morzam, etc...just curious 2 see what they look like. I was always hoping I could find another horse just like him with the same bloodlines. kmpage333 wrote: "His sire was Tisaan's Sugar....Big Red was born in 1970, in Moorhead , MN if that helps. OMG, I want to breed gaited arabians as well. ^^ My mare shows a tendency to gait so I plan to encourage it. xD

If you look in the archives of my yahoo list (gaitedArabians@yahoo.com), there is an extensive discussion about gaited Arabians.  What bloodlines is your mare?  I have the Arabian datasource, so I can look her up with only a registered name, or number.

 Karen

She's registered as KC Carlene, but I plan to change her name soon. =D I'm not sure about her mother besides that she's aparently straight egyptian, and her sire is Bachelor Bey so I am not sure if he has any history of gaiting either. xD

Also, I just joined your group and am waiting for approval.

As a side note, I was just on the island of Antigua down in the Caribbean and rode a gaited horse.  He was a horse with no name.  I asked Rastaman, our guide, if he knew anything about where these horses came from and he said they have a lot of Arabian blood in them.

Here's a pic of me on Horse with No Name.  I call him an Antiguan Racking Horse.  Rastaman said they call them Marching Horses.

Quite a few of the early day Arabians were 5 gaited.

The one I owned was Tikar #9116.  Many traced back to *Raseyn.

I remember seeing a picture from the 1930's of a grey arabian horse that was racking very nicely. It may have been an old post somewhere on this messageboard, or it could have been something I found while googleing around on the net. Might have been from an old issue of The Gaited Horse magazine.

I know the lady that created the AWP breed, Joan was telling me about the arabians they have behind the TWH breed.

We also have a black Arab/TNW mix mare with rear white socks who is 2 1/2 and a very small spot on her head. When Emmy got her mother, the horse traders said she was never in a field with a colt or stud. Six months later and almost coming out as a sescu baby, Emmy had a bouncing baby horse. She Gwenie) came out gaiting , but her nanny gelding taught her how to trot.....::). We are begining ground training on her in earnest.

I am hoping in 2 years to be on her and have her gaited.

We have noticed things about her. First, she has the short back of most Arabs and is very leggy (Gonna get the ZZ top song "legs" as her theme song. lol). I also think she is going to be narrow. She does have the loose movement of the walking horse. She has the TNW head but is refine like an arab. She is also very limber (which is probably due to age like us be unlimber because of age.)

I will try get my hands on a cam and video tape her movement.

Attached is a picture from last summer.
