I always thought it kinda smells like anis :D Anyway, not even my molar-less 32 year old has a problem with it - they all love it.

Hey,

Isn't it great, that no matter where ya live, there is feed available, and no matter what brand it is, just balance it to your horses activity level.  Grain and sweet feed are not evil, just overused by most folks.

I knew and old timer once who said he fed his horses like he rides his horses.  In order to burn a pound, you have to consume less than a pound in calories and then burn that much with activity.  The non working horses don't need as many calories as the hard working ones.

I had a friend who just couldn't resist those beautiful hungry looking eyes.   Her horse lasted 2 years, and then developed laminitis due to overfeeding.  Obesity is a disease even horses can be afflicted with.  Proper nutirition is not a complicated thing but is it the owners responsibility.

I would never ever haul for boarders on a regular basis. Holy smokes, good boarders are out there, and if you have no way to get feed for your horse, you probably need to re-think having a horse at all, or have the boarders meet your purchasing schedule.  Give them advance notice of your buying schedule and request that they pre-pay if you have to haul it for them, and make allowance for your fuel, time, energy, etc, during the haul.

You'll be surprised how many really are able to haul their own when you begin to get paid what you are worth luv.

I had an employer who came to me once on a frazzled day when I had hauled hay for the neighbors, one boarder, myself.  She approached me and said very quietly "Don't work for free"  You need to be kinder to yourself or you will achieve burn out on the boarding game.

Wow...compared t you all,my horse is very spoiled. LOL. I always buy my feed from the Co-op,and I always get sweet feed, then an all grain or alfalfa pellets bag. I get 1-50 pound bag of each. Mix them both together. Sonny get's fed 3 times a day. He's in about a 5 acre pasture. He only gets rode by hubby about once a month or so. (sometimes not even that) He's never been hyper. He's about the most laid back horse we've ever owned. He's 6 years old. He's not over weight either. I'm amazed at the prices you all are paying for your feed. the 2 bags I said I bought(which would be 100#s)is right at 14.00 for both of them. Then again,I'm not buying the name brand either.
