Well, like tons of others here, I agree that Friesians must be the most beautiful horses on the planet. But they would not be my first choice for trail riding, which is what I do! Gaited horses are the way to go on the trail. Like I mentioned in another post, I have a friend with an Icy that is large for his age; looks like a Friesian, with a perfect gait. Wonderful combination. My beautiful guy is a Kentucky Mountain Horse. He does a running walk, as well as a fox trot. But what I have found with most KMHs (mine especially of course!) is they have such sweet dispositions. What a gentle eye. And oh so willing. Even when I let him out to run and roll, he would prefer to stay right by my side. I can not get enough of him, and I wouldn't trade him for ANY Friesian!

I've had paso fino's, peruvian pasos, missouri fox trotters, a cross of mft and paso fino, and now tennessee walkers. I have to say it always comes down to the horse and not the breed. My experience, though, was that the paso fino's do their gait the most naturally. The paso-mft cross was the most naturatally gaited beautiful horse but he was on the smaller side and a little "low strung" -- a little too boring for me! That was just the personality of his dam (the mft), though, coming through.

Yeah I have to agree Fresians are gorgeous...must be the "fairytale" girl in me. Big black charger with a handsome prince...THERE I GO...off into space. Anyway...I have never even seen one in person so I don't really know much about them other than they are gorgeous. But give me a TWH to trail ride any day. I've ridden Racking horses and Pasos as well and they are pretty cool. I think everyone has their version of their own personal "Dream Horse"...I've got one version of mine in my Buckskin filly and the other would have to be a 16 hand Dapple Grey with a black mane and tail..walking horse of course. giggles.

Ah man..I have so many favs. I'd give my eye teeth for a Friesian. I love all the gaited breeds. My best horses have been Appy's until Star came along. I'd LOVE to have a gaited Appy. Right now and probably forever..Star is my favorite breed. Spotted Saddle Horse. I'll take a hundred of 'em just like her. She gives new meaning to the word "Awesome".

Well, EZD's Falcon Rowdy is my favorite, and his descendents that look like him. I was just at Eastfork for the Racking on the Edge ride where they run the speedrackers and I got to see Rowdy Rawhide's Wiley who's a Rowdy grandson. He is gorgeous! Very fast and very well gaited. His owner Bobby Parks I found to be a very kind horse owner who treats his animals well.

My favorite, for all-round common sense and endurance, is the American Mustang. I relearned to ride on a mountain-type Mustang mare who had a smooth 1-2-3-4 gait and my youngest daughter is now riding her daughter - who also prefers to gait rather than trot. Our primary use of the horses is trail rides, with or without competition. My eldest daughter's Mustang has earned six NTRC National Championships. That said, I now ride a MFT who is every bit as sensible, and a little less stubborn.
