I have a mare (Black Babys Girl) out of Evil's Stuntman that I'm considering breeding.  If you were breeding this mare, which stallion would you choose and why?

Is there any photos available of her? And are you looking for a specific color in mind or ?? What are you trying to improve or achieve with the breeding?

I've been looking at Stallions because I want to breed my pony next year. But I've been pretty specific of wanting something that would help her produce color, and I want a filly, and I want it to be Sabino etc.

But I do know of some very handsom Stallions with great lines, Just would help to know what you are looking for in a foal etc. So if you could please be more specific it would help a lot.

You might also want to look at how correct his gait is. I found out that my Lady's sire is a terrible pacer, even pacing at liberty in the pasture. I found this out from a local man who had thought of breeding to him until he found out about the pacing.

I would love to have a tobiano blue roan, if that's what you would even called a blue roan with spots.  Since I want it for the grandbaby, I think calm and level headed like Baby is the most important to me.  I do hope that my grandbaby's want to show or compete in some way though.

Might try lookin up C Em Walkin Ranch, they're in OHio, the lady that runs the place Michelle is verry nice and friendly and has mostly Pusher lines. But if she doesn't have something that will work for your mare, I am sure she knows of someone with a Stallion that would work. What you want is a Homozygus Roan as long as you know your mare produces the spot genes

The Stallion I chose for Sunny, is Pusher's Silver Image.  Which will give me either an Blue Roan Sabino or Black Sabino. Because she's a dirty (sooty) chestnut roan sabino with flaxen mane and tail.

Hello there! You say calm & level headed is most important to you. A lot of gaited horses (except maybe some show lines that have been bred for more 'fire') have great temperments. I think this is because they've been 'using' horses that the whole family had to be able to work with, so they bred for good minds.

I've found some good ones in Walkers, Racking horses, & Paso Finos, but I think the best minds are in the Mountain horse breeds. (Rocky Mountain, Mountain Pleasure, & a lot of Kentucky Mountain horeses (although they've allowed a lot of outside blood in their association). I'm not real familiar with the Spotted Mountain horses, but I assume they're about the same.

They just seem like the Golden Retrievers of the horse world. The ones I've had, you could just do about anything with them. Training was usually a matter of just showing the horse a time or two what you want & he's got it. Like one old timer said, "You do your training in the breeding shed". (Meaning if you breed for the right kind of brains & temperment, there isn't much difficulty in training them). I'll have to say that's what I've experienced.

Anyway, your mare is a real knockout! Thanks for sharing your pics and good luck in your stud search.wv

If I were considering to breed my horse this is what I would look for in a stallion. Temperment, perhaps height (taller stallion if my mare were on the smaller side). Gait, if I have a nice natural walking mare, I would look for the same in the stallion. If my mare's gait isn't all that nice, then I would sure be looking for a stallion that would enhance the gait of the foal.
Above all you want to take a good look at your mare and see what faults she has and then find a stallion that would better the resulting foal in that area. For instance, if my horse did not have a pretty head, I would look for a stallion with a nice head. If her gait was not good a true, then I would want a stallion that would enhance her gait, if her legs were not real straight, she toed out some, I would look for a stallion that had straight front legs ect. If my mare was not a real showy looking mare then I would look for one that was more flashy.
Then distance and price would come into consideration as well. I notice you are in Kentucky. There are many fine stallions in Kentucky and Tennessee so you will not have a hard time finding one, the hardest decision will be which one. There are many breeder magazines and above all start googling and take a look at them, then start narrowing it down to the ones you most like. Go see them and then make your decision.

Showy and Flashy, I've heard these terms many times, but what do they really mean?

What do you all think of this stallion?

Generator and Pusher on one side, Midnight Sun on Both sides plus Merry Go Boy, sounds good to me. Even if I remember Pride and Generator lines are show lines, Push lines are known for great temporment and gaits.

You've done your homework well!  So many times when someone is looking to breed for color, they overlook more important considerations: conformation, gait, and temperament.  It appears your choice has all of these qualities and the color you want.

Go for it!

This is a stallion I really like and thought about him when I bred my mare, if you are looking for unique color here he is: http://www.tnwalk.com/Star.html

True Blue Roans look like DR. all Black points, no white markings or very little, if looking for blue Roan with chrome, there are lots of Black Sabinos popping up now, which to me is basically a blue roan with chrome.

There was a Blue Roan at the camp last trip out that was gorgeous and they said he was out of a stud that was in the DR. breeding,  not sure exactly which stud, but they said he was very pacey and had heavy shoes with metal bands on him and trial riding in those rough mtns, but he was pretty for sure and so is the one you posted, I've looked at him before too.

Very nice stallions and very nice choices. Here is my opinion and it is just my opinion. So please consider everything and then go with what you feel is best.

The Blue Roan Stallion Dr.Blue, I really like him, very nice all around stallion. I liked the fact that they breed for temperment as well as quality. I liked that you would be sure of getting a Blue Roan. Things I were not so crazy about, was his head. Ok I know you cannot ride the head, but I do like a horse with a pretty head. And while this stallion's head was alright, I did notice that his dam's head was not. I also noticed that at least one of the foal's appeared to have inherited her head. So you may take into consideration that your foal could inherit this stallion's dams head. He had a nice walking gait ( I would like to have seen more of it on flat ground as well), but maybe it is just me, but it did not look to be real consistent. It was good, but look like some bobbles there.
He was a very nice overall stallion, but just was not a knock out to me.

Star of Magic- Loved him, he had that flashy show ring presence that I mentioned. Hard to explain what that mean, but look at them both again and see if you can tell what I mean when I saw that. Great eye appeal. Very consistent in his gaits.
Things to consider- He is a racking horse (which I happen to prefer), but you may not. You may not get the color you want since he evidently does not have the double gene.
They had many other nice stallions as well. This one, out of the two might be my number one pick, if color was not the deciding factor. No guarantees here.

I can't breed to Stuntman's Star of Magic, he and my horse have the same sire.   I do hope to get a foal that is similar in color to him though.

Duh, I read that but it did not even sink in because when you said blue roan tobi, he is the first one I think of, he is so pretty.

Your mare is pretty too, is that her first foal by her side ? who is his sire ?
