I finally got organized and had my partner video me. I would really appreciate feedback on what gaits you think my horse is doing. Sally has just turned 5 and has just started to steady in her gaits. She is very variable in her gaits and evenly timed she is not (often anyway). The gait that I think is her most natural road gait is in the following video on youtube. She can hold this gait with little help from me. I think it is a rack (but I looked at a foxtrotter website and got confused) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xadASYFDt4&feature=channel I also got a video of her on uneven ground and I think she goes into a flatwalk up hill and then into a step pace racky thing downhill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEh4sesZV0k&feature=channel This is what I think is a flatwalk. I dont think I really get her to do a runningwalk much, perhaps some steps now and then but you guys would know better than me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeEWsDO5XI4&feature=channel There are a few other videos of her on youtube. I have been working on cantering her as she has a nice canter and guides fairly well and we filmed that as well but of course I make mistakes as soon as we turn the camera on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezGrog_0L4M&feature=channel I would really like to know what gaits she is doing.

Well, I am not equiped to tell you what gait she is doing but it is beautiful and she looks like what a TWH should be doing. She sure has some ground covering gaits that look fun to ride. I'm sure the experts here will help you out later today. Your camera crew did a great job with the video also. I will look forward with you to see what others say. Keep up the good work!

Beautiful horse! In the first video, she has a nice square gait, could be either a rack or a foxtrot, I couldn't really see well enough and can't slow motion the video, which for me really helps analyse the footfalls. In the second video, it looks like she dog walks up the hill the first time and step paces down, then almost breaks to a trot going up the second time, and step paces down. In the third video she does do some steps of the running walk but she isn't consistant. The flatwalk and the running walk are the same gait, its just a matter of speed, and it looks like you are riding her quite fast in all her gaits. I am interested too in what other people think is going on. Videos are always fun!

i agree with the last post. i think if you would collect her a little more, she would be much more consistant in all her gaits. slow her down and get her steady in the flat walk. after you master that speed her up in the same gait (just faster). after that is steady then bump her on up into the rack (the first video). always collected and consistant. i think she has what you want out of a TWH. just needs to slow down and get steady at each gait.

cool videos. I need to figure out how to do that so I can get a video of my boy. I'm going to throw my thoughts into the mix. In the first one, I will say rack. Because of the lack of head bobbing for a foxtrot. You have a good looking horse!

You are too worried about speed. Slow things down for consistency, and then worry about speed. . . PB
