Well I have been getting itchy to ride because we have been unable to go on any trips lately because Jerry has been covered up at work since April, people are getting there old cars rebuilt instead of buying new right now.

So I rode Cruz a couple days when the humidity fell off, but it took me 2 days to slow him down since I have been letting my BIL ride him and he thinks they are at the kentucky derby when he rides, anyway finally got Cruz in a nice steady gait but still have to work it alot, I like to just get on and go.

Jerry and I rode last night and when we went to catch the boys Mira took off running, well of course the boys go to, pissed me off, but Jerry caught them and we rode and it was Jerry's idea and then all he did was whine and cuss about it being to dang hot, well Duh.

So this morning it was nice and cool and I was getting ready to haul water to the pasture and Mira was all like hurry up I wanna go out, so I was like ok you hussy you got out of it last night so I'll ride you a bit this morning.

WOW that is the kind of ride that just makes you smile & bubble everytime you think about it.  I mowed a track around the field last week to rack on so we went down there first.

She was in the most beautiful high headed, high stepping, just the right speed rack and so light in the bridle it was just wonderful,  I did not realize she could be so light, I have always had to try and get her to do what I want and not what she wants, she is a thinker.

I just love that speed nice moving out ground covering but not blowing by everything like the BIL thinks you have to do, we rode all the way up to my husbands garage and pulled up at a bay and I hollared "Hey anybody in there?  I need a Oil change"  his employee came out and said "we don't work on foreign cars"  Mira said Wheeeneewe,  I told him she said hey I'm from Tennessee !

l1 I'm glad you managed to ride in this awful heat we've been having. I love to read about the horse moving out like they should without alot of effort on the part of the rider. I've always felt that if the gait is there (and strongly there), then all you have to do is get out of the way of it.

I think so many times we hold them too tight or push them too hard that their bodies just can't work their natural gait. Mira is bred to be a smooth gaited, nice stepping horse. Her confirmation and bloodlines should always produce that kind of flowing gait as long as her rider rides her right and IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'VE GOT THAT MARE PERFECTLY IN YOUR HANDS! YAY! :D

I have been having trouble posting pictures, so was testing.

This has always been one of my favorites of Mira when she was young and skinny, like we all used to be. LOL

Jo, that girl of yours is so pretty and I adore hearing about the great ride!!!!

My DH and I have been toughing it out and doing some riding during this horrendous heat, but early mornings and staying in the shade whenever possible.

He has his nice new 4 Beat on Domino and they look stylin' I must say.  Domino loves that saddle and is gaiting nicer than ever.

I have put it on Lacey too 4 or 5 times and she gaits better with it, so guess who is going to try to save her pennies and get us a 2nd 4 beat?  I want the endurance model though.

But I am so ready for Fall and cooler temps, it isn't funny, as I know everyone is.

The saddle is great because it is designed to be out of the way of gait. Congrats, Karen! Pics when you get it?

Spotd, you are a great story teller.  Makes your post so interesting.  My mom used to call me a hussy sometimes l1  mostly because I was sassy!  We finally got a ride in on Saturday too.  It was still warm but not to humid.  We trailered to our local campground and ate breakfast along the way.  I was so worn out just riding 3 hours I came home and took a two hour nap.  It is going to take some conditioning to get me back in shape to hopefully ride this fall.  I just hope it isn't like last year, so hot and then boom! winter all of a sudden and no late fall riding at all.  Sometimes the best enjoyable rides are those short ones around the farm.

Don't hold your breath, Whatta, it'll take awhile...unless I get lucky and find a good used one.

Im so glad you got to ride.  I have been wanting to but the heat has been soooooo bad and the one weekend it was nice- we were out of town (and its going to be nice this week coming up and.... yup out of town :(

I tried to ride Saturday myself.   My friend got sick and backed out, my lazy teenage daughter refused to get up so I decided to ride my Appy mare around the farm.  Good thing I did, found out she is OFF.  There were a couple of issues but the worst one is we think an abcess and it just hasnt burst yet.  She had grown so much sole w/not riding her she wasnt wearing it down- that she was walking on her front soles- so I rasped them down but her rear right foot that is where the problem is.  So I spent my riding time working on her feet.  Oh well- fall is right around the corner.

I am looking forward to having a ride just like you just did spotd ridr very soon (as soon as we get back from Myrtle Beach anyway)

Yes thats exactly me, I have always said I am so lucky to have had such a natural for my first.

Sometimes I feel sorry for my horses because I think I am so inconsistent with my ques and so fidgety that they have to really try hard to figure out what I want. But I do think I am starting to recongnize what ques they understand and I am becoming more consistent.

Also my best rides do come on the days that I get on with a lot of confidence or a I'm in a "I'm not taking no BS attitude", but I just cannot manage that every ride.

The only balks we had was at the creek crossing, she spun on me and ran back up the hill, (she hates water) but will cross anything if the rider is confident, so I spun her right back around and made her go on, she likes to go to the garage because both my BIL's property is on the way so she knows she will see other horses 4 on the trail and 5 across the street at the garage.

Coming home we have a long line of round bales with black wrappings on them and a flat bed trailer sitting along side the trail, the round bales didn't phase her but the trailer, well we ended up going halfway up in the garden with her side stepping around it, other wise perfectly willing.
