Welcome Sam, I too am in Southern California. I live in the High-desert in Oak Hills on a 2 acre mini-ranch. I have 6 horses at present:

Rhiot               my 18 year old Saddlebred

Rhage             my 12 year old Half-Arab ( in my Avatar picture)

Rhandie          my 6 year old Half-Arab mare, the above horses half-sister

Lacey              my 8 year old Spotted Saddle horse mare

Rocky              my 4 year old TWH/SSH colt and last but not least

Skylar              my 3 year old TWH filly.

I also breed and raise German Shepherd Dogs and for comic relief have a Jack Russell Terrier and a bossy Chihuahua!

Where do you live, maybe someday we can meet on a ride, there's quite a few of us So. Cal members to organize a fun ride day! tu1

Hey, there, and welcome to the MB, from Sunny So. Ohio.  l1

Clicker training is pretty cool stuff - plan to get back into it this spring.

Welcome Avishay!

This is a great board and you can learn a lot about gaiteds here.  I participate in and judge CSHA trail trials.  They are a blast!  This year our region is hosting the state championship Trail Trials event-hope you can make it up here to compete!

Thanks. I'm a huge fan of sacking out, but Shay makes it easy, he's very laid-back, he actually likes the tarp a lot. Some of the tricks were taught using clicker training, something I've been dabbling in lately, while others were just the usual pressure, response, reward method.

Wow. Those are great pics! I haven't looked at all of them yet but I am impressed at Shay's tricks!!! I can't even imagine getting that tarp within 50 yards of my horse.:D

Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

Here's my webshots account so that you can see pics of my horses. Tecnically, only Avishay (Shay) belongs to me, but Woodrow, my 21 year old QH, has been in my care for about 8 years now.

Hello Avishay. Welcome to the board. You hit the right place for training ideas and great friendships. Hope you fill your cup! Post pics as soon as you can. And feel free to jump right in whether it's horsie business or just a bunch of goofs goofin off. We are like a large family of brothers and sisters here. I'm sure you'll fit right in. tu1

Greetings from Sunny Southern California!

My name is Sam and I'm a full-time college student, (very) small-time horse trainer/ assistant ranch manager, and horse mom. :)

None of my horses are gaited, but I recently took on a rising 5 year old black Fox Trotter for training as a family trail horse and trail trial prospect. I primarily use John Lyons' methods and I've ridden walkers and fox trotters in the past, but since this horse has almost no training (his first owner sold him to his current owner as 'broke' but I suspect that he only had 30 days put on him, if that) I wanted to learn more about training gaiteds. I've read Mrs. Imus' articles in some local puplications, so that's how I ended up here.

I look forward to making friends here and learning as much as possible about gaited breeds and their special training requirements.
