Thanks Everyone for the warm welcome!  wv

Looking forward to learning lots...  esp since I've signed up for a GOG clinic in March!

I'll try to stick another pic of my "1000 lb girlfriend" as my wife calls her, but it seems all of our horsey pics are of her Morgan!  Can you guess who carries the camera when we ride??

Here is "Wind" in the barn during construction... I think she is trying to pick out her stall.  ;)

She's all fuzzy cuz it was spring of last year and I'd only brushed off half of her 30 lb winter coat!

This IS the best place on the net - SOOOO good infact several of the regulars actually favor non -gaited horses yet live here.  This was the first place I ever posted and the best!

You tell a great story and have a lovely family - can't wait to hear more!

Welcome Mark,

I'm from AZ too,  lived there my whole life until 1 1/2 years ago we moved to Wyoming!  Been to Flagstaff lots of times, beautiful area.  I love Bay horses and you don't seem to see a lot of Bay Walkers.....at least never when I'm horse hunting.

Welcome Arizona Mark!

I discovered this board late last year and love it. So many people here willing to give free advice, or just a laugh when you need one to brighten your day.  Love the picture of your two horses, they're beauties! :D

Welcome from Canada.  I love your area of Arizona. My aunt used to live in Camp Verde and we would visit and drive down through Flagstaff.

Howdy Mark!  You live in a wonderful part of the USA.  I passed through Flagstaff a few times and was amazed at how cold it turned at night!   One of my horses likes to assist me during fence mending times while the other can't stop eating long enough to assist-lazy bum!  More photos of your lovely area (and horses)  would be enjoyed by all!

Hello to all from the cold and snowy part of Arizona.

I have been prowling around the corners of the 'net to find a horse forum that;
had knowledge I could absorb [and maybe return to someone else someday],
had a friendly atmosphere with just the right amount of insanity,
and focused on my accidentally found love of horses, specifically my Walker.  I think my search may be over...

How I fell in love with horses is a rather long story, but suffice it to say my wife is an animal lover and I have grown quite used to "putting up with" many different types of  creatures.

We moved to Flagstaff close to two years  ago now with the intention of buying horse property and eventually a couple of horses for her.  I had resigned myself to being the "stable boy" with the various tasks being delegated by the boss mare. w2

That being said, I am not a total tenderfoot when it comes to these long-legged critters.  I have ridden a bit, even proposed to my wife on a private ride with the wrangler of the "Diamond Bar" ranch who was in on the plan and wandered off in search of elk at the right moment.

To avoid any more wandering about the point here I'll just say we read, researched, thought about what we wanted to do with our mounts, and then made a list of horses to visit.  Those plans went out the window after the first ranch we visited.

Teamo [Te-ahm-o, spanglish for I love you] and Windwalker had 80 acres to roam and play on but were still pretty lonely after the human mom passed away from breast cancer two years before we met these horses.  They were fat... I mean fat
They had pasture with some grass, got alfalfa for breakfast and dinner with a scoop of grain for dessert.  At least their coat was glossy!

For my wife it was love at first sight.  The horses responded to her like no-one else who had come to look at them...

So two visits and one vet-check later they were at our house settling in.  The next thing I knew, I was reading more about "communicating" with horses and gaining their trust, and being their leader by showing them they could trust me.

Now, Windwalker has worked her way under my considerably thick hide just as I have gotten under hers.  She is a 12 y/o very bossy TWH bay mare who taught me why Winston Churchill said, "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."

Teamo is a 6 y/o Morgan buckskin gelding who is more than willing to help with any chore I am trying to get done outside.  He holds the manure fork with his teeth whenever I set it down, [still trying to gat a pic of this], steals my other tools to chase the bossy mare with, and really enjoys learning new tricks, like mouthing open the gate to the dog run to chase and play with the black labrador.

Well, that's longer than I intended to write.  At least that will give you a glimpse into our farm so when I ask questions you will know where I am coming from.

I'll try to post a pic on here of my three favorite mammals from right to left...
Teamo, Windwalker, and my wife in our backyard.  Over their shoulder's is a view of the National Park where we ride every chance we get.  tu1
