Hi, I am from Southern Wisconsin and am new to the board.  It is nice that there is somewhere to go to ask questions and get answers from many different people.

Thanks

Misti,

Welcome from Lakeland Fl.

Im a reguler on here, but my computer crashed for a few weeks, so im trying to catch up. Looks like we had a few new members join from Florida since I was out.

Im so happy that you are looking for your horse. It is so exciting. Please let us know how the search is going for you. Besure to take your time, and look at as many as it takes until you feel that special connection with the horse.

What type of riding are you wanting to do? Shows, or pleasure, or just laid back trail riding?

Most of my friends and I just trail ride, and have had really good luck with buying  from personel owners, who have had the horse for years, and can really tell you all about them. Especially if they want to keep intouch with you. Those seem to have been the most honest for us.

Look forward to hereing about your new journey,

Enjoy.

Hi Debbie,

I know it would be a bit of a drive for you but I sure hope you can make it to the show.  We are so excited about it and hope it will be the first of many NWHA events to come ito our part of the country.

Please spread the word to any one you know that would be interested in going to a sound horse show.  They can look at the NWHA rule book on their website if they have any quesitons.

Go Sound Horse!r1

Welcome Mistiblue,

First off there really is no such thing as a dumb question--especially when you are talking about gaited horses!!  I want to invite you to a horse show that our riding group is putting on in Florida.  The Sound Trail and Rail Society (STARS) will be hosting a 2 day National Walking Horse Association (NWHA) affiliated horse show at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center on March 24th and 25th.  This will be the first all gaited horse show at the facility.

The show is open to Walking, Racking, and  Spotted Saddle Horses and will feature 78 rail and versatility classes so you'll get to see a little bit of everything.  This show can allow you to see different gaited breeds doing their gaits and you can talk to the exhibitors about their horses.

You can find out more about the show by going to http://www.nwha.com then click on "affiliated shows and events" and scroll down to the STARS Citrus Classic Show.  Our class sheet is attached to it.

Go Sound Horse!r1

Welcome, Mistiblue-

There are many different folks here for many various and assundried reasons that have gaited horses.   I did not mean to buy one, personally, but he was cute and needed a home quickly and the price was very right   c2 .  Not knowing much about gaited horses, I followed along with the "breed crowd" for a couple of years and began to realize things were not right and things were done for looks and presentation and not for the good of the horse.   I found Gaits of Gold and got the wisdom and help I needed.

The fact that you are here now means you are off to a good start.  Welcome aboard and hope you find many good things here, as we all have.

Pam in Crawfordville, FL  (northwest Fla)

(also watch out for Hurleycane - she gets in these singing and prose writing phases sometimes :D)

Welcome Mistiblue! I am so glad to welcome another member. You will find so much information here to help you make a good decision when you do purchase a gaited horse.

You will also find that this place is much more than an information highway. We have a lot of fun and enjoy picking on each other. Just don't talk about that big package Hurley Cane carries behind her. She's kinda sensitive about that. You will also find some great people in the chat room so feel free to enter that gate, too. :D

Hello from up in Canada.  I know you will find lots of gaited news here and also something to tickle your funny bone or lift your spirits.  Wishing I was in Florida right now.  Good luck with the horse hunting, just a word of advise  don't go for the first pretty face you see.

Hello from SC!  I was born and raised in St. Pete, except for a few years in OK.  I remember when Orlando was surrounded by swamp!  Good luck with your horse search!

It is so refreshing to find a site that does not believe in chains, pads or weights to get the gait out of our horses.  I have one horse that is a bit pacey and needed advice on that.  I have definitely found some info on some things I can work on.  I know if I took him to a trainer heavier shoes would be the first thing they would try.  We trail ride extensively and heavy shoes would not be right for the mileage we do at times.  I see now my horse needs a lot of riding and controlled walking.  He definitely can hit the right lick especially going up a hill and in soft dirt.  He just turned 3 years old and needs to develop his muscles.  He is a very good boy and has a great disposition.  Any more advice?
