Hey, Ms. Blue

I became a member yesterday. This is a great place to be. Everyone is warm and friendly.  Good luck with your horse and finding some great trails.

Hi Sue N Blue,

I was out looking for a boarding place today as I am renewing my search for a horse! The place I was looking at really doesn't have trails and I really want trails right there.  I went to Chicago Heights and looked at Just Horses and a new place right there(you might have been the person that told me about it).  It is very nice but I think too much money for me.  I saw a couple of personal homes with stables and talked to one lady but she doesn't have an opening now.

I was asking a question on the message board about a horse I saw for sale and went looking for people that live near by and saw your name again.  So, did you ever get some lessons and how are you and your horse doing?

Well, take care!  By the way, do you go to church in Hammond and if so, where?  If you are ever looking for a church to grow closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus, come and visit our church-Bethel Bible at 1138 173rd St here in Hammond!  We teach the Bible for life here and eternally.

   God bless,

  Gennifer

Hi Sue N Blue!

Wow, this is so amazing!  I had to look and see if it was my message as I started to read yours!:D  I live in Hammond, IN and I have a stall being held in Crete for my hopeful, soon horse!  Really!  l1

But I am so curious where you board with the wonderful trails!?! I am suppose to have trails near by(the stable is at Exchange and State Line Rd) but the owner has only been there since November and she is more into training then trail riding.  So, either I would be interested in where you board, or would like to know if it is near where I have the stall held.  Let me know, please!

Also, the owner at this stable, Connie, is a trainer of 30 years, and she grew up with Walkers, so she could probably help you.  If you are interested, write me and I will get you her number.

Well, I hope you will write and let me know more about yourself, and your stable and trails and where it is at.  Thanks!  Hopefully I will get my horse soon, and we could meet and ride together!

   God bless,

   Gennifer

When my sister bought her horse he hated the arena but was great on the trail.  She likes to trail ride more anyway so that is where he spends most of his time, but he has gotten better about being in the arena.  I think it is because she always uses it for a very short time and at first didn't ask for a lot.  Her horse would get upset and not gait if pushed.  Allowing him time to relax and be a horse in the arena has helped his attitude about it.  He goes in now and will gait and work nicely but it has taken 2 yrs to get him that way.  My sister really has gotten the horse to relax etc in the time she has owned him and he is a better horse for it.  He was wound pretty tight when she bought him.  I don't know what your horse does when you try to lunge him but make sure you wear gloves and I've learned that I have to be parallel to the horses body.  If you have a round pen you might be able to teach lunging in there faster because the fence will help you.  Work in small sessions once the horse goes around once or twice well I would stop and praise him and quit with lunging for the day.  Also you might try exercising the horse by turning him out before you lunge him.  Teaching a really fresh horse something, including lunging, is difficult.  Just some ideas that you probably already know to1!  Welcome to the board-

Hi Sue n Blue

Welcome! I also live in Indiana. Richmond, just off I-70 ,5 or 10 min. from the Ohio line. Tailgaitin and I are trying to get together but haven't been able to yet. You said you were from IL. or rode there. Have you ever been to Shawnee Natl. Forrest. We love it there. I don't ride a gaited yet. I have 2 , 1/2 SSH's one 3 and a yearling.Don't think the 3 yo is going to gait but the filly has potentical. I ride with people that have  a Rocky, 2 KMH and a SB. My QH does reall well keeping up with them. I commented  to my farrier that he seemed stiff in the back legs and he told me he thinks he's a gaited horse from riding with them. You will not have enough time to ride if you try to keep up with this wonderful MB.I love it. Like someone said you learn a lot even US NON GAITED PEOPLE!!!

ENJOY!!

Hi Sue,

I am from N. Judson Indiana, which is about 40 minutes SW of Valpo. The other members were correct in that you can get alot of specific training advice from this site... just ask! Also, read the old posts, there is tons of info already there. As far as personal help, if you can't find a gaited trainer to help you, a non-gaited person can help with the basic ground work with your horse as well as bending and being responsive under saddle. The basics are pretty much the same. If you need more specific help, just ask.  By the way, I am one of Brendas' Apprentice Training partners... let me know if I can help in any way
