I would love to see a video of an Indian Shuffle. Until I joined this forum I had never heard of it. Are there breeders for that particular type?

Is it just the Appy's that perform this gait?

Darn I had a hard time with this one. Everytime she was in clear view of the camera where I could get a good look at what her legs were doing, the camera was either shaking or the horse stopped gaiting and was walking.

I thought it was funny that at the walk she had a very pronounced head nod, but as soon as she was gaiting, it ceased.

I believe she is racking. She is beautiful horse and I really like her. I do notice she is throwing her head up, have you checked her teeth? She seems to be trying to avoid the bit.

Wonderful horse, really like her color and build.

She's gaited, just hasn't been brought out. How can I get her gait to come out?

Went back and read your first post, don't think you have to bring her gait out, it is there!
Just may need some fine tuning. But she is a gaiting fool! You got yourself a very nice horse!

For one thing it's difficult because she didn't perform one gait consistently for very long, but I could see some stepping pace. Also, she did some racking. It seems to me that proper and consistent riding would have her doing a rack in short order.

What will help tremendously would be the Imus Comfort Gait bit and well fitting tack. Also, I like to ride down country roads to improve gait quality as it seems that long straight stretches on a smooth consistent surface works best. However, keep in mind that deeper footing helps to keep them out of the lateral (pacey) gaits. (Like arena sand, muddy trails/fields, maybe deep grass, snow). Also, only ask for more impulsion when you're going up inclines. Just let her go at a good working walk when going downhill. Going at any speed downhill will cause the paciness to increase (not what you want). This helps square up laterally oriented horses. You can do serpentines and spirals in and spirals out as well to help.

If your saddle is a good fit and comfortable for her, I would suggest snugging up your flank cinch to touch and be sure it's connected to the front cinch so it doesn't slide back. When it is loose and you've got her racking, the rear of the saddle will pop up and down with each stride she takes, causing the front of the bars to rotate and pinch the withers. They don't like to keep doing something if it hurts. She has potential and looks pretty nice to me!
