What a beautiful pair! Did you choose Reggie because his color matched your hair? Just kidding. You both look great. My RMH always puts his tongue over the ICB. I used to get off and stuff his tongue back under the bit, but I got tired of doing that. When he starts fussing and slinging his head I look down and see his tongue lolling out of his mouth. I tell him "you got your tongue over, you can dang (nicer word than I use) get it back under. So he goes along fussing about the whole thing, and then eventually gets his tongue back under until the next time. I think he plays with the roller.

Even as a small kiddo bays were my favorite. So I'm looking at another Standardbred ... http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/grd/2451191744.html What'cha think ...?

Horse looks nice and price is sure good, but you have to train to ride (and gait well) and are you sure you want to get on & off of a 16.1hand horse? I like 14 - 14.2 horses myself! The speed that a Standardbred can have while racking is pretty darn nice though...

LOL! I'm nearly 6' and mostly legs. I'd be dragging my toes on the ground with a 14h horse. (Right-o, that is a slight exaggeration l1 .) My standardbred Reggie is tall boy at 16.2h, based on recent stick measurement, and I periodically ride him bareback. I haven't made a move on Easter Lady - too much going on in life right now. (Eeek, family medical concerns.)

She sure is pretty. If she is broke to harness, she should be fairly easy to ride. It will still take some time to get her "trail broke". But you already know that. All of my horses have been 16 plus hands, it just turned out that way. My old standardbred is 16.1 and my current ride, a SSH is 16.3. Let us know what you decide.

Thank you, I agree. She has an incredibly expressive face! Below is her moment of "checking in with the humans" following a good stretch of her legs in the arena. She is currently in quarantine with turn outs ... but will soon be integrated with the mare herd in their paddock. Any words of wisdom from the community on facilitating the most gentle introductions? Attachment: php7f8eecAM.jpg (Downloaded 38 times)

She is beautiful!! Congratulations!! I always hate introducing the newbies to eachother. We had a tragic loss of a wonderful mare who had her leg broken by a freak horribly timed kick by a newbie trying to protect herself from the older alpha mare. bh Please take your time and let them get to know eachother over a fence for a while first. (we did this though the timing of the kick was just too sad....) I just cringe now till I know everyones OK when we have to introduce a new one! Best of luck, what a beauty!!

Any words of wisdom from the community on facilitating the most gentle introductions? If you can take one of the mares out of the herd, not the dominant one but one in middle hierachy and put the two together, then they can form a friendship that will make it easier to merge. Don't know your setup out there, but after they form a friendship in a few days, add one more to their little herd. Another way is to keep her in an adjoining paddock (maybe with one of the other mares) and let them snort and sniff over the fence. There will be some chasing and squealing no matter what you do.

She sure is a beauty! It is always a scary time when a new one comes along. TN is right, they will squeal and chase no matter what. I would keep her seperate and then like others have said, just introduce them one at a time. My husband's Paint horse isn't really that high up in pecking order, but when a new one comes in no matter how careful we was, he tried to kill them. But my orphan baby was introduced to a herd of 3 after a short time with my old fellow. They all get along just fine. Never was any kicking or fighting. Just depends on the horses I guess. Good luck and take it slow!

Gotta brag on my two lovely horses - they gave me a really delightful outing this morning. Today we accomplished a new first: ponying Easter out on trail from Reggie. Both horses did very well and Reggie blew me away with his professional "I've got a job!" attitude. What good kids!
